Free or Cheap Curriculum

I have just started homeschooling and am looking for free or cheap curriculum. I would like to make sure my daughter is learning everything she should. I have her enrolled on the free k-12 homeschool site, but would like something more as well. I also would like her to have lots of knowledge of the Bible. I have 3 children with one on the way so I would like to make things affordable. I also would like to know if there are any museums or places that offer discounts to homeschool families?

Congratulations on starting homeschooling! I remember when we started....my biggest fear was...will they learn everything that's required?! They somehow do, with surprisingly little effort on your part. It sounds like you are off to a great start.

Homeschooling does not need to be expensive. Many homeschoolers rely on libraries and other sources of free and inexpensive learning materials. In fact, some learning activities actually save money, like gardening and many do-it-yourself projects. Others, like starting your own business selling homemade baked goods, end up making money. Interestingly enough, people who spend very little find that this approach has many advantages, even if it wasn't their first choice. We answered another visitor's question on cost that will be helpful also.

There are a lot of books, DVDs, tapes, etc. out there to help with teaching the Bible. My children learned the books of the Bible (among other things) just listening to audio tapes. You may be able to find a church school with a library willing to let you check out their materials for free. Larger public libraries may have just what you're looking for.

A number of educational facilities offer discounts to teachers, including homeschool parents. Be sure to ask when you visit a museum or purchase a book from the book store, etc. if they give discounts. Some will require proof of homeschooling, so remember to have a copy of, say, the DPI form from your state that shows you have your children enrolled at home.

Thank you for your question. May your new homeschool venture bring you many rewards!
