Issue #002 ~ August 2009

Summer's Winding Down!

Yikes! Where has summer gone? We have not really had a summer here in Wisconsin. It has been cool and dry. Odd combo, I know. I'm actually looking forward to the "Dog Days of August!" Hot and Humid...bring it on!

1) Brain Teaser

Here's one to start off your first day of school with:

The bottom part of a sash window is three feet tall, the top part, two feet tall. If you lowered the top part two feet, and raised the bottom part the same distance, how much open space would there be at the top of the window? (Answer at bottom.)

2) Quick Tip/Book of the Month

Did you get everything ordered that you need for the upcoming year? I hope so!

Is your school room ready? Now's the time, if you haven't already, to go through closets, drawers, desks, etc. and clear out all of last years stuff. I call it "stuff" because if you're like us, it could be just about anything! De-clutter. I love Don Aslett's "Clutter's Last Stand". Pick up his book or borrow the video "Is There Life After Housework?" and get a chuckle. Start out the school year afresh and ready to learn!

3) New Pages Added

We've added a number of pages to our site that may be of interest to you, a friend or a loved one.

Auto Repair Yourself - Do you have any driving age teens? I came across an excellent source for keeping your auto running smoothly, including some money saving tips.

Alpha Omega - This is a Bible based homeschool curriculum that is great for families wanting a little more structure. You'll want to check out their testimonials, too!

Accredited Home School Programs - There was a time when I did not know what an accredited home school was! Now you, too, can learn what they are and if your family could benefit.

Play Dough Recipe - From toddlers to adults, you will get lots of use out of this play dough recipe! It's easy to make and lasts a l-o-n-g time. Enjoy!

4) Terrific Contributions From Visitors Like You!

Every month we will share the best visitors' pages submitted the month before. We appreciate everyone's input, but there are some that really shine. My family votes on the best of the best. Here are this month's top picks (in no particular order):

Recipes
Chili Dog Pie - Kaitlyn's family finds this an easy and yummy meal.

Book Reviews
Shakespeare for Teens - Don't just assign a Shakespearean play, read it aloud!

5) # Visitors in July

We thought it would be kinda fun to let you know just how many of you are visiting the site each month. The month of July finished out with 2,153 visitors! Welcome one and all!

Until next month, may you experience many homeschool rewards,
Diane

Answer to Brain Teaser None. The bottom part, two feet from the top originally, is raised all the way.
